A Grand Gala 2010
On October 2, 2010, the Ronald McDonald House of Akron held The Grand Gala 2010 - Footsteps to the Future! The event celebrated 25 years of caring and honored William Considine, CEO and President of Akron Children's Hospital. Mr. Considine and many current board members were responsible for opening the house 25 years ago. The event was held at Firestone Country Club and included a silent auction (thank you to all the generous donors!), a visit by Ronald McDonald in his party tuxedo, 91.3 The Summit radio station broadcasting live, a tribute presentation and much more! 25th Anniversary Street Fair Celebration
On July 18th, 2010, the Ronald McDonald House of Akron held a Street Fair Celebration in honor of our 25th anniversary. The event honored all of volunteers who have given 25 years of caring and service. Moe’s restaurant graciously provided a delicious meal and the Archbishop Hoban High School Steel Drum Band provided entertainment for everyone. As the attendees visited with each other and took pictures in the old fashion picture booth, a surprise celebrity visitor made a guest appearance. Ronald McDonald spent the afternoon meeting the volunteers and their families and posing for many photo opportunities! The event was a huge success and the Ronald McDonald House thanks each and every volunteer who has helped our house and our guests for the last 25 years!
Annual Charity Golf Classic
On June 21, 2010 the Junior Women's Civic Club hosted the annual Charity Golf classic at the Congress Lake Country Club. The beautiful day provided excellent opportunities for the record number of golfers to enjoy all that the course offers. Mr. Oye Olatage even had a hole in one and donated a generous amount of his proceeds back to the event. Overall, the golf outing and silent auction were a huge success, with an expected donation to the House of nearly $30,000. Thank you so much to the Junior Women's Civic Club for all of their hard work and for making this happen!
Happy Birthday!
On January 13, 2010 a birthday party was held at The Ronald McDonald House of Akron celebrating 25 years to the day that the House opened it doors. Guests included present and former Board members and Volunteers. Ms. Blanche Davy the first Resident House Manger was a special guest along with Bill Considine President and CEO of Akron Children's Hospital. Mr. Considine and Mr. John Shaffer, first Board President, spoke to the crowd of 100 guests.
